New Study Shows Benefits of HIFU Prostate Care for Veterans

Houston, TX – A new study has just been released highlighting the advantages that Sonablate can offer veterans suffering from prostate cancer. The study, conducted at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, demonstrates that high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) using the Sonablate platform provides comparable oncologic, erectile, and urinary outcomes to standard-of-care options for localized prostate cancer

Titled “High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Ablation for Primary or Salvage Prostate Cancer Therapy: Initial Outcomes in the Veteran Healthcare Setting,” the study is the initial and largest retrospective case series of HIFU use for primary and salvage treatments of localized prostate cancer in US veterans.

The study's authors conclude that HIFU is a promising treatment option for localized prostate cancer, and as they accumulate more long-term data and experience, HIFU may become an increasingly important tool against prostate cancer, offering veterans a less invasive option that balances oncological control with quality-of-life preservation.
